The Ukrainian Emergency Service and GSC Game World have initiated a project aimed at promoting mine safety rules using the immersive world of the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
In a video based on the game, the main character, Skif, showcases essential safety protocols:
- Avoid suspicious items
- Do not touch them
- Return the same way you came
- Call 101
According to the Emergency Service, approximately 23% of Ukraine's territory remains hazardous due to mines and unexploded ordnance, with demining expected to take decades. Despite awareness of the risks, over half of teenagers act recklessly, particularly boys aged 14–17, who tend to underestimate the danger.
To convey this crucial message in an accessible manner, the Emergency Service alongside GSC Game World has embedded the theme of mine threats into a familiar virtual environment for players. Developers claim that this project aims to save lives by replacing dry lectures with emotional engagement.
