The largest mobile operator in Ukraine, "Kyivstar", is announcing the initiation of testing for the new Direct to Cell technology for its subscribers. The initial phase will involve SMS messaging, and interested parties can register to participate.
The testing will take place from October to November 2025, with the technology's implementation scheduled for Q4 2025. This advancement will enable satellite communication for message sending and receiving. In the future, "Kyivstar" will also integrate mobile internet and voice calls via VoLTE.
The operator mentions that during the testing phase, Direct to Cell will be available at no additional cost. Currently, the technology is only accessible on Android smartphones, as "Kyivstar" awaits confirmation from Apple.
It's important to note that Direct to Cell will operate exclusively in open spaces.
Recall that Direct to Cell is a Starlink technology that connects your smartphone to satellites functioning as mobile communication base stations in space. This allows users to stay connected even in areas where terrestrial network signals do not reach.
