Microsoft has announced major changes to its Authenticator app that will take effect over the coming years.

Starting in June 2025, the app will no longer support password storage, and from July, the autofill feature for passwords will also be disabled. By August, users will lose access to all saved passwords. This means all generated passwords will be deleted, with access to saved passwords being available only through the Microsoft Edge browser. However, the Authenticator will continue to support access keys.

Users are advised to create backups of their passwords to avoid losing access to critical accounts such as email and banking services. Additionally, starting in July, all payment information will be removed from the app.

For convenient password autofill, Microsoft recommends using alternative password managers like Google Password Manager or iCloud Keychain.
