A 47-year-old Odessa resident, previously convicted of theft and robbery, has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is currently in custody.
This information was provided by the police.
In July of last year, a resident of Odessa reported to the police about sexual violence committed against her 15-year-old daughter by an unknown man.
Officers established that the perpetrator, in an intoxicated state, spoke to the girl on the street. After learning she was heading to the city center, he offered to take her on a shortcut, lured her to an isolated area, and assaulted her, which the child later reported to her mother.
Within hours, detectives from Police Department No. 2 of Odessa District Police Department No. 1 identified the offender as a previously convicted 47-year-old man.
The law enforcement officers located the man, and during an urgent search at his residence, seized a prohibited psychoactive substance, 4-MMC (4-methylmethcathinone), which he had purchased for personal use.
The investigators detained the offender in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The court chose a preventive measure of detention.
«During the pre-trial investigation, conducted under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa, the police collected sufficient evidence, including forensic conclusions, based on which charges were brought against the defendant under part 3 of article 153 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for sexual violence against a minor without their voluntary consent, as well as under part 1 of article 309 for illegal possession of psychoactive substances without intent to sell,» said investigator Valeria Buliga.
The investigation is concluded, and the indictment has been sent to court. The offender faces up to seven years in prison.
