In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainian ports handled 23 million tons of cargo, which is 4.8 million tons less than the same period last year.
The Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine reports that the largest volumes of cargo handling occurred in the ports of Greater Odesa. Since the beginning of the year, they have processed 20.7 million tons of cargo. Specifically, the Port of Pivdennyi handled 10.6 million tons, the Chornomorsk Port processed 6.6 million tons, and the Odesa Port dealt with 3.5 million tons.
The Danube region ports, including Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk, collectively handled over 2.3 million tons of cargo.
According to the Administration, the decline in cargo volumes is linked to a reduction in agricultural land and a downturn in production in export-oriented sectors, particularly metallurgy, which before the war exported up to 80% of its products.
It is also noted that globally, cargo handling is decreasing due to market instability and disruptions in logistics.
