In Ukraine, an average of 240 fires are reported daily, resulting in approximately four fatalities and five injuries.
This information was shared by Roman Tsyren, head of the State Emergency Service's Department of Emergency Prevention, during a briefing at the "Media Center Ukraine".
Tsyren highlighted that these figures indicate "alarming trends" when viewed annually.
"On average, two thousand citizens die each year due to fires, and around five thousand may be injured," noted the emergency services representative.
He also urged Ukrainians to refrain from lighting bonfires in nature during the Easter celebrations.
"Our country has suffered greatly from explosive remnants. Many areas that have been de-occupied still contain dangerous materials.
Given the significant rise in ecosystem fires - a 68% increase - I do not recommend starting fires in forests and parks," explained Roman Tsyren.
Additionally, losses from emergencies include fatalities and injuries from road accidents, according to Tsyren.
Statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs indicate that in 2024, nearly 26,000 accidents occurred with casualties, resulting in over 3,200 deaths and more than 32,000 injuries. This represents a 5-9% increase compared to 2023.
First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshytsky noted that the most common cause of accidents with injuries and fatalities is speeding, accounting for almost 39.4% of cases.
Other prevalent causes of accidents included violations of maneuvering rules, crossing intersections and pedestrian crossings, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
"When we add the road accidents, where an additional six thousand of our citizens die, the losses are enormous," summed up the head of the emergency prevention department.
It is worth noting that only 55 Ukrainians died in household fires in the first six days of 2025. Fires were caused by electrical short circuits, improper use of heating devices, and careless handling of fire, including smoking in bed while intoxicated.
