During an inspection of the Lebedivka forest area, which is part of the Tuzlovsky Limans National Park, the forester discovered and seized 8 illegal poaching traps. The conservation service emphasizes that the installation of such traps poses serious ecological and legal risks.

This was reported by the conservation service of the Tuzlovsky Limans National Park.

Traps are primitive tools for catching birds and animals, typically hidden in areas frequented by wild animals (wild boars, otters, foxes, hares, etc.).

The negative consequences of using traps include:

  • injury and death of wild animals;
  • destruction of rare species;
  • disruption of ecosystem integrity;
  • difficulties in detection due to their hidden nature.

The use of traps is a serious violation of environmental protection laws.

According to Ukrainian law, any activity harmful to natural complexes, including hunting, is prohibited.

Under Article 248 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, illegal hunting is punishable by fines or imprisonment with the confiscation of tools.

Hunting regulations and violations are defined by the Law of Ukraine on Hunting and Game Management.

Illegal hunting includes:

  • hunting without a proper permit;
  • hunting for species not listed in permits or exceeding allowed quotas;
  • hunting in prohibited areas;
  • hunting at prohibited times;
  • using prohibited tools and methods (glue, snares, traps, etc.).

A single instance of illegal hunting is sufficient for liability.

The Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses provides for fines and confiscation for violation of wildlife use rules.

Furthermore, guards remind that visiting the forests of Odesa region is prohibited during martial law.
