The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a resolution regarding the establishment of a new experimental project — the Museum Assets Registry of Ukraine. This digital platform will consolidate all data about the country’s museum objects, ensuring their accounting, preservation, and protection. Thanks to this document, processes will become more transparent and manageable.
«Each museum will have its own cabinet and free access to a unified interface. This digital registry will allow us to monitor inventory and control the movement of museum assets both in Ukraine and abroad. It will also provide access to information about museum collections and the procedures for searching and returning stolen or lost exhibits. The registry will assist in quickly implementing other important projects, including evacuation. This is a key project for the preservation of our cultural heritage», emphasized Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Culture, Tetiana Berezhna.
The resolution is necessary for organizing processes related to the collection, storage, protection, and processing of information about museum objects and collections belonging to the state part of the Museum Fund of Ukraine.
The registry will provide opportunities for monitoring, inventory management, and control of the movement of museum assets, as well as tools for accessing information about the search and return of stolen or lost exhibits. Additionally, the system will ensure convenient and secure access to data about museum collections.
The registry will allow:
- to record each museum item in digital format;
- to control the movement of exhibits within Ukraine and abroad;
- to respond swiftly to cases of disappearance or theft of cultural assets;
- to create a database for the return of lost museum items;
- to generate analytics regarding the state of museum collections.
The experimental project will last for up to two years, during which technical solutions will be tested, the interaction of the registry with other electronic systems will be established, and the circle of users will be defined.
The establishment of the registry is an important step towards preserving the Museum Fund of Ukraine and enhancing the role of museums and reserves in shaping modern Ukrainian culture.
