In August 2025, a meeting of the Odesa City Council Executive Committee was held where it was decided to conduct a competition for the best project proposal for a monument to the outstanding Ukrainian writer Lesya Ukrainka.
The organizer of the competition was the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Odesa City Council.
The goal of the competition is to identify the best architectural proposal for the monument and to improve the surrounding area.
The competition was held in one stage until January 30, 2026. Professional architects, sculptors, students of relevant institutions, and urban planning specialists were invited to participate.
Currently, the results of the competition have been summarized, with 12 project proposals submitted.
The jury awarded the first place to the project under the motto No. 201953 (authors - sculptor Mykola Bylyk and architects Andriy Korstruba, Maria Matushenko, Oleksandr Vovk).
The second place went to the proposal under the motto No. 704020 (authors - sculptors Viktor Lipovka, Oleksandra Ruban, and architects Andriy Danylenko, Kateryna Lipovka).
The third place was awarded to the work under the motto No. 250271 (authors - sculptor Anastasia Kozminska and architects Mykola Chepelev, Mykola Volkov).
All participants will receive monetary prizes as outlined in the competition conditions.
According to the decision of the Odesa City Council, the monument will be located in the park at the corner of Fontanska Road and Lesya Ukrainka Avenue.
