In the struggle for human lives, nothing stopped the healthcare workers – their hearts have now ceased.

This was reported by the Ministry of Health.

On July 10, Ukraine observes the first Day of Remembrance for Fallen Healthcare Workers. This initiative comes from the team of the Award «Order of Saint Panteleimon». It was launched this year to honor the memory of medical professionals who lost their lives during the war.

Healthcare workers at the front and in danger zones who saved our soldiers under fire. Healthcare workers in the rear, working during air alerts, in operating rooms without electricity, in bomb shelters. They tirelessly fought for the lives of children and adults. Sadly, many of them lost their lives. And there are hundreds of such heroes.

According to the Order of Saint Panteleimon, over the three years of the great war, Russia has killed at least 500 Ukrainian healthcare workers. These include doctors, nurses, junior medical staff, and combat medics. They became targets for the enemy on the battlefield, in stabilization points, in operating rooms, in offices, on the streets, at home, and on their way to work.

To preserve the memory of everyone who died, the Order of Saint Panteleimon is implementing the project «Light of Remembrance», aimed at honoring healthcare workers who sacrificed their lives while fulfilling their professional duties. Within this project, with the participation of the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information about the fallen medical workers is being collected and systematized.

If you know of a fallen healthcare worker at the front or in the rear, in a civilian or military hospital, please send information to the email: medlib@library.gov.ua

Make sure to include in the subject of the email: «Light of Remembrance».

Today, July 10, at 2:00 PM, hospitals and medical facilities across Ukraine will sound a signal – the sound of a heart stopping. Following this, there will be a minute of silence. This is a sign of gratitude, respect, and mourning for the fallen healthcare workers.

Let us remember. Let us give thanks. Let us honor.

Eternal and bright memory to the fallen healthcare workers.
