The Odesa National University named after I. Mechnikov, supported by the initiative «Donor Odesa», organized the event «160 blood donors for the 160th anniversary of ONU».

The event involved the administration, trade union committees of employees and students. Medical staff from the Odesa Regional Blood Transfusion Station facilitated the mobile donations.

The campaign took place in two phases, with the first concluding in spring. The second phase coincided with World Kindness Day in November. On November 13 and 14, ONU representatives donated blood at two locations: in the Kyiv district at the Faculty of Hydrometeorology and Ecology, and in the Primorsky district at the Department of Health and Safety and Natural Education.

«The donation drive continued even during the blackout. Despite the power outage at one location, we activated a generator to keep the necessary equipment running. With a part of our blood, we can save our defenders who are fighting for our lives and Ukraine's independence,» said the organizer of the event, Associate Professor Vadim Penov.

Thanks to collaborative efforts, over 170 people donated blood at ONU. The initiative attracted not only students and staff but also their family members who expressed their desire to contribute to support Ukraine.

Additionally, ONU students and faculty conducted significant outreach efforts to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation on social media.

Each blood donation can save up to three lives.
Kindness starts with us. Goodness saves lives.
