Last week, Odesa hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Day focused on prevention and early diagnosis for women in the city. The event was organized with the support of the Health Department of the Odesa City Council and the Odesa Health Center, coinciding with the Nationwide Day of Fighting Breast Cancer.

Women were able to undergo free clinical breast examinations, receiving consultations from family doctors, therapists, surgeons, and oncologists. Medical professionals from diagnostic centers also provided mammograms and ultrasounds without the need for electronic referrals.

A total of 1822 women participated in the preventive examinations. There were 669 referrals issued for mammograms and 388 for ultrasounds. Additionally, 170 women were referred for further consultation with a mammologist.

During the event, 97 women underwent free mammographic examinations through self-referral, leading to the timely identification of 8 cases suspected of breast cancer, with all patients referred for further consultation and examination at specialized medical facilities.

Remember! Women over the age of 40 should have screening mammograms annually, even if they have no complaints or symptoms. Timely diagnosis can detect precancerous conditions and malignant tumors at early stages, which can be successfully treated.

Odesa's medical facilities have equipped modern mammography machines funded by the city budget, and a unique Family Health Center has been established at Consultative Diagnostic Center No. 6 for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
