The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that the results of the so-called "referendum" initiated by his government have halted Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
According to "European Truth" citing Telex, Orban emphasized that Hungary "understands the Ukrainians and sees their heroic struggle".
"We recognize that they need assistance, but we want to provide support without harming ourselves. Ukraine's membership in the EU would mean that we would undermine ourselves. We would be immediately drawn into a war with Russia, bringing it onto EU territory, and therefore onto Hungary's territory as well", – stated the Prime Minister.
"Yesterday, with over two million votes on Voks2025, we stopped Ukraine's accession to the European Union", – he added.
The Hungarian government leader declared that Ukraine remains an "undefined entity" not due to its own fault.
"We do not even know what Ukraine is today, where its borders lie. This danger has existed in other former Soviet bloc countries. That is why they were first accepted into NATO, as NATO could guarantee those borders. Only then did the EU accept the other relevant countries", – Orban continued, adding that Ukraine cannot join NATO, as it would mean an immediate war.
