During his visit to Ukraine, the newly appointed Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya emphasized the continuation of support for Ukraine, including a new aid package for the energy sector.

The Japanese government is one of the most significant partners of UNDP in Ukraine, consistently funding the procurement of equipment for the restoration of critical infrastructure.

Odessa has already received its first gas engine cogeneration unit with a capacity of 3.3 MW, and installation is currently underway. The city expects two more similar units soon, which will cover about a third of the energy needs of critical infrastructure for water supply, heating, and sewage.

The Mayor of Odessa noted that during the full-scale war, the city is actively constructing its own energy system under challenging conditions.

«We are immensely grateful to Japan, our sister city Yokohama, which was the first to support us, as well as to the UNDP team and all other countries that are helping Odessa build the foundation of our resilience», - said Gennady Trukhanov.
