An important meeting of the regional branch of the Association of Cities of Ukraine took place in Odessa. The meeting was chaired by the Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, and included the participation of AMU Executive Director Oleksandr Slobozhan and advisor to the head of the Association of Cities of Ukraine, Oksana Prodan.

The main goal of this event was to discuss significant issues of local self-governance, including:

  • challenges in budget policy and financial processes;
  • prospects for creating agglomerations as a tool for regional development;
  • changes in legislation, particularly the abolition of the Commercial Code and the introduction of new mechanisms;
  • ways to attract investments, particularly through the European Investment Platform Ukraine Facility.

The importance of community unity and cohesion was also emphasized.

«The strength of our communities lies in unity. It is this cohesion that gives us the power to overcome any obstacles. We face daily challenges that our residents encounter and feel their need for support. Local self-governance lays a strong foundation for state building. It is crucial that decisions are made based on the real needs of the communities», — noted Gennadiy Trukhanov.
