On November 28, an event took place in Kyiv that marked a crucial step towards building a judicial system where children's rights mean more than just adherence to the law.
The seminar dedicated to launching a project focused on the specialization of judges in family and child cases brought together leading experts and international partners to initiate changes that could transform the lives of thousands of children.
Why is this more than just a reform?
Imagine a court where decisions are made with children's needs in mind, where a judge knows not only the law but also understands a child's psychology and hears their voice.
This will become a reality thanks to the specialization of judges supported by the Cassation Civil Court, the Interagency Coordination Council for Minors, UNICEF, and the Ukrainian Public Center "Volunteer".
Three critical steps for change:
- Pilot courts will implement specialization — judges will undergo training and work in multidisciplinary teams alongside psychologists, lawyers, and child protection agencies.
- Training for specialists on safe family environments and children's rights.
- A friendly space for children — courts will have specially designed rooms that minimize stress for the youngest participants.
This pilot project is just the beginning. Its success will serve as a foundation for legislative changes and the formation of a judicial system that prioritizes children's interests.
This is not just about reforms. It’s about care, humanity, and creating a world where every child feels safe.
