Police have charged a 19-year-old resident of the Odesa region with causing serious bodily harm to his friend. During a birthday celebration, the assailant stabbed the victim in the chest. He faces up to eight years in prison for his actions.

Authorities reported that the incident occurred a few days ago in a village within the Bilyaivka community, where a group of young men aged 17, 18, 19, and 21 were celebrating a friend's birthday at a private residence. During the gathering, a dispute arose between a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old, escalating into a fight. During the altercation, the older one grabbed a knife from the table and stabbed the younger one in the chest.

"The victim's friends assisted him in getting home, where his mother promptly took him to the hospital. Medical professionals diagnosed him with a penetrating stab wound to the chest," the report states.

Realizing the severity of his actions, the assailant returned home and called the police. Officers arrived at the scene, established the circumstances, seized the weapon and other evidence. The perpetrator was found to be intoxicated.

"Based on the collected evidence, we informed the suspect of the charges for intentionally causing serious bodily harm that endangers life. Under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to eight years. The court imposed a preventive measure of round-the-clock house arrest. The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Bilyaivka District Prosecutor's Office," stated investigator Dmytro Tkachenko from the Odesa District Police Department No. 2.
