The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the International Public Transport Union (UITP), Mr. Mohamed Mezghani, during the large international transport exhibition InnoTrans - 2024 in Berlin.
During the meeting, the parties addressed challenges faced by Odesa in recent years, including the need for upgrading electric transport and buses, the increased load on the transport network due to a rise in passenger numbers, as well as issues of inclusion, cashless payment systems, and blackout risks.
Mr. Mezghani expressed his full support and willingness to assist Odesa in addressing its transport issues. He noted that UITP unites over 1900 member organizations from more than 100 countries, including city councils, operating organizations, and transport operators.
Following the discussions, it was agreed that Odesa would submit a request for updating its bus fleet, and UITP would assist in implementing this as part of humanitarian aid.
The parties also agreed to participate in a joint stand for the cities of Odesa and Hamburg at the international UITP Summit in Hamburg next year.
